Insurance Reimbursement Bill info

The VANP is the Vermont Association of Naturopathic Physicians, recognized by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) as the professional organization for naturopathic physicians (N.D’s) in the State of Vermont. Naturopathic physicians have been licensed in Vermont since 1996 to prevent, diagnose, and treat health conditions and injuries. They have a specific formulary of prescription drugs they may use in addition to a wide range of natural medicines and therapies.

For information on scope of practice, licensing, and applications, please visit the Secretary of State's website: http://vtprofessionals.org/opr1/naturopaths/

As an organization, the VANP supports strong professional standards, continuing education for N.D’s, and promotion of the full scope of naturopathic medicine throughout the state and region in a regulatory environment consistent with protection of the public interest. We support inclusion, collaboration and equal access for all licensed medical professions in the health care and insurance systems. The VANP also reaches out to the public and interfaces with other professional organizations to represent naturopathic medicine and physicians in Vermont.

Naturopathic physicians graduate from four-year naturopathic medical schools with admissions requirements comparable to other medical schools. In their education, they undergo extensive academic and clinical training with respect to the therapeutic use, efficacy, contraindications, and possible adverse reactions and toxicities of natural remedies and treatments. Their training also encompasses standard medical diagnosis and laboratory work. They then must pass rigorous licensing board exams to earn their licenses.

Naturopathic physicians work as general practice physicians, covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatrics, and as specialists in natural medicine, using effective, individualized natural therapies to promote health and treat the underlying cause of disease.

Naturopathic physicians integrate scientific knowledge and standards with the healing power and wisdom of nature. As thoroughly-trained medical professionals, naturopathic physicians are uniquely able to bridge “conventional” and “alternative” approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and health education.
